Pehr Granstedt
Life
Pehr Granstedt (1764-1828) was a fortress commanding officer of the neoclassical style architecture. He was born in Karlskrona in Sweden. He came to Finland Gustaf III's war fortifying Hanko and possibly also work in Sveaborg. He was captured by the Russians in the Finnish War, for what period has left his diary as a prisoner of war in Russia. After the war, he stayed in Finland.
Granstedt designed by the current presidential palace originally in 1814 for the Heidenstrauch a wealthy merchant family house. The state bought the house in 1837 the Russian emperors Finnish-palace, after which it was substantially amended C. L. Engel planned.
Granstedt son was the architect Anders Fredrik Granstedt. Granstedt tomb has been preserved to this day in Helsinki Old Church Park.
